The Etruscan dog is no ordinary hound. It greets us with bare teeth and a side glance, but doesn’t mean to intimidate. It is an elusive beast with an independent tail, eroded by time, bearing indecipherable inscriptions.
Aurora Pettinari York is a contemporary artist and embroiderer making relief and in the round sculptures. Her technique has developed from her exploration of XVII century raised embroidery, a complex craft combining multiple needlework techniques and materials to convey depth.
Using needle and thread as an archaeologist’s shovel, she digs out fragments of a lost world to feed her sense of wonder, slow down, ask questions and contemplate new possibilities.
