“This painting grows out of my time in community care and from reflecting on the forms of closeness that develop there, emotional, sustained, and shaped over time.
Four figures gather in a deep red field. Their forms soften and begin to dissolve into one another. One figure remains slightly apart, suspended in a quiet interruption, present but momentarily elsewhere.
The work holds the intimacy of care but also its pressure. Tenderness and exhaustion, comfort and overwhelm, all existing within the same breath.
It also marks a turning point in my practice. For the first time I began to let the painting lead more than I did, working more instinctively and allowing control to slip in favour of something more embodied.”
Four figures emerge within a deep red space, their forms gradually dissolving into one another and into the surrounding ground. One figure remains slightly apart, suspended between presence and distraction, as if interrupted mid-moment.
